Forms & Input

Keep field values in signals and write accepted changes back from event handlers.

#Text input

const [value, setValue] = createSignal("");
const [notes, setNotes] = createSignal("");

<Input value={value()} onInput={event => setValue(event.value ?? "")} placeholder="Name" />
<TextArea value={notes()} onInput={event => setNotes(event.value ?? "")} />

onSubmit handles Return in a single-line input.

#Fields

Field connects a label, control, description, and error.

<Field.Root required invalid={name().length === 0} validationMessage="Enter a name">
  <Field.Label><Text>Name</Text></Field.Label>
  <Field.Control value={name()} onInput={event => setName(event.value ?? "")} />
  <Field.Description><Text>Shown on your profile.</Text></Field.Description>
  <Field.Error><Text>Enter a name.</Text></Field.Error>
</Field.Root>

#Choices

Compose Checkbox, CheckboxGroup, RadioGroup, Radio, and Switch with their indicators and labels. Update state from each root’s change callback.

<Checkbox.Root checked={checked()} onCheckedChange={setChecked}>
  <Checkbox.Indicator><Text>✓</Text></Checkbox.Indicator>
  <Text>Remember this device</Text>
</Checkbox.Root>

#Select

Select chooses from a list. Combobox mixes typing and selection. Autocomplete accepts free-form input.

<Select.Root
  ariaLabel="Theme"
  items={[
    { value: "system", label: "System" },
    { value: "light", label: "Light" },
    { value: "dark", label: "Dark" },
  ]}
  value={theme()}
  onValueChange={setTheme}
/>

#Events

Text events put the string in event.value. Buttons use onClick. Keep UI updates in those handlers; run slow work elsewhere and write signals when it finishes.
